CHIASSO, SwitzerlandAug. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ —ODEM, creator of the world’s first On-Demand Education Marketplace, is joining forces with the InternetBar.org Institute and leveraging blockchain technology to provide displaced populations with digitized educational records. Collaboration with the IBO will use cutting-edge cryptographic technology and ODEM systems to deliver blockchain-backed education certificates through mobile devices.

“Together we can use the security of blockchain technology to help the world’s most-disadvantaged people,” said Richard Maaghul, ODEM’s Chief Executive Officer. “It’s really gratifying to be involved with the IBO on such an important project.”

ODEM’s database-service tools aim to help those in stateless communities, such as doctors, nurses, and teachers, by providing verified evidence of their professional qualifications. Re-establishing professional credentials is a first step toward helping these communities to regain self-sufficiency. According to the UNHCR, almost 70 million people around the world are displaced.

“Our platform is a component of next-generation systems which can benefit disenfranchised communities,” said Scott M. Akers, ODEM’s Blockchain Solutions Engineer. “This initiative demonstrates how emerging technologies, such as blockchain, can make a positive difference in the lives of people, regardless of their economic status.”

ODEM is building the ODEM Platform to empower students to engage with top educators to create high-quality, reasonably priced educational programs. Unlike online education providers, ODEM focuses on real-time, in-person academic experiences. Powered by the ODEM Token, the platform streamlines the organization and delivery of educational offerings.

By partnering with IBO and deploying a decentralized education application, ODEM aims to fill gaps in educational qualifications that occur when people are displaced by war, famine, or other calamities. Providing continuity in credentials can reduce the need for professionals to repeat costly and time-consuming exams to work in their chosen fields.

The non-profit InternetBar.org Institute recognizes that access to technology and new forms of identity can help vulnerable populations to begin rebuilding lives and communities. Individuals become positive forces for change. The IBO will introduce displaced populations to ODEM’s educational marketplace to establish verified credentials. Armed with their digitized educational history, each displaced person has the potential to lead their community in the direction of positive social change.
